The ginseng herb has been used by cultures around the world for centuries just like most herbs that are being used for natural remedies. The problem for natural herbal remedy market in the western world is that research studies into the claims of these herbs comes far with few in between. Well it looks like the common herb of ginseng, American ginseng specifically will be getting some well deserved research via western doctors. Just finished reading this post about $6 million dollar grant to do research on American ginseng and its restorative elements.
American ginseng was once commonly found in the Ozark and Appalachian regions of the country but unfortunately has been over harvested through the years. Now American ginseng is commonly grown and farmed in regions of British Columbia, Ontario Canada, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The most common forms of American ginseng is that of a pill or in an herbal tea.
One of the most common uses for American ginseng and ginseng in general is that of a stress reliever used as a dietary supplement. Some other common ailments that the ginseng supplement is used for is type II diabetes and sexual dysfunction in men. One common side effect to ginseng that most people are not aware of is sleeplessness, it keeps some people awake.
The purose of the $6 million dollar grant actually has a four part purpose to it with the money going to opening research into ginseng at four different research clinics and university campuses across the country. All of them looking into different aspects of ginseng herb, the most intriguing to me though is the research that will be done by the Center for Herbal Research on Colo-rectal Cancer. This center will be gather data as to the cancer tumor fighting abilities of American ginseng specifically.
This to me is where the true answers lie to curing cancers. I am a big believer in the power of herbal medicines and I have always felt that all the cures and remedies that man could ever need has already been provided to us by our planet. It’s nice to see a sizable amount of money going into the research of the power of a natural growing herb instead of trying to engineer a medical solution. The solutions are out there people we just have to be open enough to seeing them.
