Plant Herbs vs Modern Medicine – Misguided Fortunes
When it comes to herbs and the comparisons of modern medicine. Modern medicine has got nothing on the herbs of the world. Most medicines available on the market today have taken their basic makeup from some sort of herb in the world. The problem of course is that modern medicine or shall we say the pharmaceutical companies would not exist if we turned to herbs to treat what ever ails us. There’s no money in it. Take for example the great little white pill of the modern era called aspirin or the more advanced Tylenol. The herb equivalent of course is white willow not a whole lot of money in that though at least not for companies that make drugs.
Imagine a world where people are schooled from an early age to learn about the herbs of the world. What if we were taught the power of plants and herbs in the world the same way we learn math or a language. There is a growing number of the population in the world that believe everything we could need in terms of medicine is provided in some way by the plants that grow around the world. We simply have not taken time or the financial resources to research all of them. Imagine the amount of money changing hands between customers and pharmaceutical companies and if that went to research and education for the plants that are growing naturally all over the earth. I know I know it all sounds nice and it will never happen but it’s fun to dream.
For example I just found a link to an herb called Tulsi which is apparently widely used in South Asia and well known as a medicinal plant. There have been some studies done on this herb that suggest it to be very similar to a lot of pain killers that are on the market today. It also has high antioxidant properties which in other studies has shown it to be useful against radiation treatments as well as diabetes and glucose levels.
See it’s herbs like that which are known in some parts of the world but never heard of in others that need to researched and discovered on a global scale. What do you think? Do the plants that grow around the earth hold the key to all our medical ailments? Is there enough research being done with herbs and plants or is all the money being placed in the hands of pharmaceutical companies being directed in the wrong direction? Please share your opinions and thanks for reading.

Yeah tea made from willow bark was used for centuries as an alternative to aspirin, as a treatment for minor headache, fevers etc, but prior to pharmaceuticals what was know about the cardioprotective properties of aspirin? (Which were discovered coincidentally). Anyhow, its cheaper to buy a pack of aspirin than to maintain your own willow tree to strip the bark from, cause its a patent free drug which can be made by anyone and sold by anyone who can meet the strict standard for doing so.
Well my point is that you can’t put herbal medicines and pharmaceutical medicine on the same page, i mean i can name about 20 herbs off the top of my head that got made into pharmaceuticals, but with that there were likely thousands which were found to be of little use, or to be completely useless.
I’m sure there are hundreds of cures to be found from natural sources, but without the evidence to back them up, how do you know which ones? I mean do you buy this guys tea, or the other guys tea, they both say they work, but how can you prove it (Or more so how can they prove it), cause only by taking someone at their word can something be effective.
This is without even taking into account the placebo effect, which can get upto near 30% false positive results (that is with a sugar pill for those who don’t know of it), just through the simple act of taking “something”.
Anyhow, don’t just buy the straight up pharmaceutical companies=bad, homeopaths=good, cause remember at the end of the day, a homeopath has zero accountability or duty of care towards your health, you can’t sue a homeopath! But you can sue a pharmaceutical company (I’m aware of the difficulty of that :p), but you have to think if you wish to choose to put your health in the hands of someone who has zero accountability.
Check it all out for yourself
